Four Tips for Dealing With Heavy Traffic

Heavy traffic can seriously harsh your Zen, but it doesn’t have to. When you know what to do, you can help to avoid wear and tear on your car, and you might avoid an accident, too. Here at CAR FIX, this is how we would suggest you approach the problem of too much traffic out there.

Plan Your Route, if Possible

Planning your route appropriately is usually a good idea. If you know that you’re going to be venturing out when traffic is at its worst, though, it’s even more important for you to plan carefully. You might find that writing out a list of your errands or where you need to go can help. Try batching your errands so that you do not have to drive back and forth through heavy traffic.

Use Traffic Apps

Something else that can help a lot is traffic apps. These are great for directions, but they’re also helpful for alerting you to things like construction delays or accidents that you wouldn’t have known to avoid. Using these apps hands-free, allows you to keep your attention on the road. When you’re able to get around traffic slowdowns, you can keep your cool and do what you need to do behind the wheel.

Dial Down the Distractions

Distractions while driving can get you into trouble quickly, but especially when traffic is already heavy. Avoid talking on your phone without hands-free devices, and wait until you’re at your destination to worry about drinks and snacks. Loud music and other distractions can cause big problems for you as you’re trying to navigate thick traffic. Even if you might not ordinarily count something as a distraction, if it takes your attention off the road, it’s a distraction.

Keep All Those Driving Rules in Mind

Remember all those driving rules that seemed like overkill when you were learning to drive? Driving the speed limit, keeping your eyes on all of your mirrors, and making sure that everyone is wearing their seatbelt helps more than you would think. Keeping your hands at ten and two may not be a bad idea, either, but what’s more important than your hands are on the wheel, and your eyes are on the road.

If the worst should happen and you end up in a fender bender while you’re battling heavy traffic, CAR FIX in Oak Ridge, TN, can make it right. Give us a call or schedule an appointment online, and we can get you back on the road again.
